The judges visit us at the Farrell City Building

We had a great turn out to meet the judges on Saturday. They stressed the importance of this November election and the many issued that will be decided by the courts in the next few years.
Below is a photo of our Mercer Democratic Party Chair Ryan Mergel and our Vice Chair Paula Allen and our State Committee Woman Judy Hines with Judge Christine Donohue, Judge Kevin Dougherty, and Judge Davis Wecht.

To learn more! Take time to view the complete story of the judicial visit to Mercer County at the Farrell City Building.

Articulate, passionate, and filled with a desire to serve all of us in the courts was the message many of us were privileged to hear on Saturday Morning in Farrell.

If you get a chance talk to the people who attended to get a first hand explanation of just how fortunate we are to have 3 qualified judges who carry the true concerns of the people of Pennsylvania.

April 13. Stand with me in Erie in the fight for CHIP

Join me in Perry Square on Monday, April 13th at 5:30pm with friends, signs, and most importantly your voice, to send a message to Senator Toomey: fully fund CHIP and provide security to children, families and our future.

My plan is to go to this event and make this day a day of action for DWMC ....
As a former teacher, aunt, mother and grandmother this issue is at the core of what we stand for as Democrat Women...health care protection for all children.  Judy Hines

Below is the a copy of the email from Dan with more information about this event:

First of all, for those of you I haven't met yet, my name is Dan Doubet, and I'm the new organizer from Keystone Progress for northwest Pennsylvania. I'm originally from Meadville, and after managing campaigns around the country, I've settled in North East with my wife and sons. My mission is to make this state better for all Pennsylvanians, and that's as exciting to me as it personal.

I'm writing you today because the U.S. Senate will soon take up debate on CHIP, (the Children's Health Insurance Program), and I need your help to make sure Senator Pat Toomey understands that this program is vitally important to the security of children and families in our community. No family should go broke because their child gets sick, and every child deserves the best medical care available.

Join me in Perry Square on Monday, April 13th at 5:30pm with friends, signs, and most importantly your voice, to send a message to Senator Toomey: fully fund CHIP and provide security to children, families and our future. CLICK HERE TO RSVP.

Millions of working families and kids rely on CHIP, and they should never have to choose between between going broke and paying for their children's treatment.

With your voice, we can make sure that Senator Toomey knows the people of Northwest PA will stand up for children and families, and he should too.

Hope to see you there!

Dan

The League of Women Voters of Mercer County will be asking questions of local legislators during an open meeting at the Community Library of the Shenango Valley.  Interviews will follow a light lunch beginning at noon.

As a day of action 14 members of the DWMC attended this event.

Our president Judy Hines acted as the timekeeper and and other members who belong to both organizations contributed food and helped with the event.

Mark Longietti, Tedd Nesbit, and Parke Wentling answering questions composed by the State League of Women Voters. Our newly elected Senator Michele Brooks did finally arrive 45 minutes late.

Questions were also submitted by the audiance. This was our best attended Legislative Interviews in recent history of this event. I counted over 50 folks and many more arrived after  my count, all 45 seats were filled with many people standing in back.

Some of our DWMC members that came out in the cold snowy day in January with questions for our legislators.

DWMC November Meeting reported in the Grove City Allied Newspaper

President Judy Hines presided at the November meeting of the Democrat Women of Mercer County and led the assemblage in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Hines welcomed members and guests and introduced guest speaker Lori Thiel from Pa. CareerLink who spoke on services available to those seeking employment. Thiel, who teaches resume writing at the CareerLink Center, stressed the importance of a solid resume.

If interested in learning the basics or sharpening your resume, classes are held Wednesday evenings, 217 W. State St., Sharon. Stop by the center or call 724-347-9257 to reserve your place.

Hines thanked everyone for working to help get out the vote, coordinated by the Wolf campaign.

Many DWMC members had the opportunity to meet Tom and Frances Wolf at the Democrat headquarters when the "Wolf Pack" bus rolled into Sharon in late October.

Government and legislative issues chair Deborah Roberson spoke briefly on election results. DWMC members intend to keep newly elected state representatives feet to the fire and hope for more cooperation and less obstructionism.

DWMC members voted to retain current officers for the coming year. There will be no regular meeting in December. The group's annual holiday get-together will be a potluck brunch at the Democrat headquarters, 10 a.m. Saturday.

In lieu of a gift exchange, members are asked to bring food donations for the county food warehouse. Previously, Sandy Laurie offered to be temporary chair of the Ways and Means Committee. Pat Simons has volunteered to assist.

Others who are interested should contact Sandy.
