Hillary Yard Signs for Western PA

We who live in Rural W. PA like to put political yard signs in our yards to show we support our candidates.   We also support our sports teams by wearing team colors etc.  It's what we do.  Did you ever see the folks that attend sporting events in WPA like a Steelers football game with their faces painted waving the terrible towels in the air, we are passionate about supporting our teams.

We are proud of the folks we are supporting and happily place signs in our fields, at the ends of our driveways and in the front yards in small rural towns.

Some of us get motivated to vote by seeing the signs and who are neighbors are supporting.   If we are not sure who to vote for, we look to see what signs are displayed in the yards of people we know and respect.  Many folks are too busy working to survive in this economy to pay attention to the news and rely on these signs to decide who they will vote for.

I have actually had people tell me they drive by my house on Election Day to see whose signs are in my yard because they know that I am keeping up with the political news and trust me to choose the best candidate to work for issues that are important to us and the needs of voters in Mercer County.

The official political party opinion on yard signs is that it is more effective to spend $$ on TV and Direct mailers.  Maybe they are right but when you drive around WPA and all you see are Trump signs and signs that say " Hillary for Prison",  it makes you feel like your team is not getting out the word.
It makes you feel you may be alone in your support of Hillary when no one has a Hillary sign in their yard.  They wonder why there is no support for Hillary in Mercer County.

We asked our Hillary Field Rep. to get Hillary signs for us to pass out and he said that he cannot.  He also said the Trump signs we see have not been paid for by the Trump campaign.  He said these folks are paying $20.00 each for these signs.

So, we got together and took up a collection to purchase yard signs at DWMC meeting on Saturday morning.    Below is a copy of an email Judy Hines sent about purchasing  yard signs.

DWMC members and friends,

DWMC voted on purchasing Hillary signs .  The more we purchase the cheaper the rate .

If you are interested in helping DWMC purchase a large lot of signs contact me today 724- 866-2220

We need the signs before the Stoneboro fair so we must place the order by Tuesday August 16 .

That means I need the money to place the order .   From our Saturday DWMC meeting we collected $265.

Call me if you are interested and need more details

Action Alert weekly Phone Banking

Join the grass roots effort to get out the vote in Mercer County.

Peter Joyce our field Rep from the DNC is working hard in the valley to register voters and getting folks together a couple times a week to Phone Bank.  Soon we will be opening a store front office to work out of. Until that happens we have moving phone banks at several locations. Call 412-251-2593

Tuesday August 9 & 16
Cravings in Sharon.  5:00 - 8:00

Wednesday August 17  Hermitage City Building   5:00 - 8:00

I know you don't like to make phone calls.  I hate bothering people but this work is important.
We need a good call list to work from to get the vote out.  The only way to get a good list of voters by November is to sort through the the thousands of numbers now.
In November when we call to remind people to vote, having good number lists to make the calls is an important step to gets out the vote, this is how we win elections.

You will be calling other Democrats, to sort out the phone numbers, people have passed away, disconnected the landline, moved away.  Most of the folks that awnser are happy to talk to you.  Only one in 10 calls may connect. The others are either bad numbers, answering machine, or not home.  We need people to help us make these calls.  We have a simple script you may use to talk to the folks that answer.  You just have to ask a few simple questions, you are not asking for donations or trying to persuade people to vote for a candidate.

Making the calls is very easy and a necessary part of the "get out the vote" process and we need help.  Folks that come to help make calls find that they have a positive experience.

You do not need to come for the whole 3 hours,  some folks just stop by for a hour or just come by and pick up a list to take home to make calls.

Every little effort is added to the whole and many hands can move a mountain.
Just putting a sign in your yard is not enough in this election.

We have really good people candidates that you can be proud to support.
Help elect Judy Hines,  in the 8th district to sit with Mark Longetti in the State House,
Katy McGinty for the Senate in Washington and Hillary for President.

We can do this if we can GOTV, (Get Out The Vote)

Impressions from Youngstown Rally

I didn't get any pictures (dead phone!) but was very close to the stage! Here's my impression, Nancy, to be printed in the blog:  from Kathleen Cardille

HILLARY-KAINE RALLY IN YOUNGSTOWN:

Did you ever wish you could capture every moment and save it forever?  That's exactly the impression the Hillary-Kaine rally in Youngstown had on every person there!  The venue was packed and the fire marshall wouldn't let anyone else in the East High School gym so at first we were in the overflow in the cafeteria, held back from making a mad dash for it behind the rope line by the campaign staffers ...Only a few seats, and many, many people.  The campaign bus hit thunderstorms and delays, and so everyone was a few hours late coming from their Pittsburgh event.  I'll give you the short version, then take you through it in more detail.

Here's the short version: The short version is that four were on the stage after being introduced by the Lordstown President of the UAW. Bill Clinton got a great welcome, Tim Kaine and his wife were well received, and Hillary got such whooping, hollering and applause!  It's strikingly correct that Kaine is a good selection.  His sincerity and intelligence were certainly the defining things about his speech...he was critical of Trump, reminding us what Trump has said and done that disqualify him to represent this country.  Hillary radiated energy and dynamism!  She spoke in positive terms about the future and inspired everyone. Late though it was, it surprised me that everyone stayed, even those in overflow!   Press was everywhere, and it was an excellent return visit to the Valley for Hillary and Mahoning County Democrats.

Here's the detail:  The crowd was entertained by a band composed of lawyers from the area, and Anna Ciambotti was there!  You might recall her from the support she gave us many times, and her brothers' Inn 62...she's a great lawyer!  Stuck outside at first, soon I was inside.  Representative Tim Ryan had the crowd in the palm of his hand talking about his driving his grandfather around from Youngstown store to store...the best cheese store, the one to get the delicious bread, another for vegetables, and the one that they would not go to, because neither his grandfather nor he would cross the meat cutters picket line.  He talked about all of the federal economic support for the Valley through the first National Advanced Manufacturing Institute –combining local businesses, YSU, and the federal government which he brought to the area beginning in 2012. He was very popular.

A few others spoke, including Ted Strickland.  Strickland, former Ohio governor, is running for Ohio Senator and he's essential to flip the Senate to Democrat.  Ted talked about being "the $30 million dollar man" with the amount of money the Koch Brothers and others have spent against him so far.  From a family of 9, Ted is well respected because of the key role he played in passing health care for Children (CHIPS program).  Ted was well received but everyone was ready for Hillary.

and then Hillary and Bill and Tim Kaine and his wife came onstage. Bill had on khaki pants, a shirt made in Reading, PA,  and a navy jacket (for those who ask what everyone was wearing) and got a lot of applause, then really withdrew as Kaine and Hillary took control.  Kaine's wife Ann Holton was a judge and advocate for children in Virginia.  He announced the news that she had resigned on Monday as the Secretary of Education for the state of Virginia so that she could join the campaign. Kaine spoke in a friendly, folksy style and it is easy to forget that he has such a deep religious core of himself.  His self-effacing, moral style certainly is low key, and it's important to recall how he's never lost an election, still lives in inner city housing and sent his kids to inner city schools, and really lives the way he says.  He's a truly good person. a real earthy solidity...authentic, I'd say, and a good contrast to Hillary.

Hillary has a magic smile, which I never knew, and she was obviously happy to be meeting those at the rally and appreciated us being there.  She wore a red long button down shirt and black leggings.  She spoke in a very positive way with a positive message and was extremely professional.  She's a good speaker, and truly connected with the audience.  The audience really enjoyed her speech and the positive messages she sent.  Much of the speech was about economic improvement in Ohio and Pennsylvania and what the federal government under Hillary will do.  She spoke about a loan-free college plan and that got great support...Ultimately she spoke with eloquence about the need to get out the vote, especially in Ohio and PA.  She has a clear vision of a country where we are important in the world, helping our citizens and running our country better than the stalemate now in place. [ In my own thoughts, we really need to flip the Senate and that means doing everything we can to get Katie McGinty and Ted Strickland elected.

It was a great rally!  Everyone can't have been there, of course, but the take-away is WE really need to get out the VOTE!

A message to our DWMC from one of our own in Washington DC

Our DWMC former president Kathy Cardille sent the following link and email.  Kathy is retired teacher and lives in Washingron DC. She moved to help to care for her grandchildren.  Her daughter works at the Whitehouse.  I hope you will take the time click on the link she sent and to watch the video of Hillary's foreign policy speech in San Diego.

Nancy

To the DWMC:
This is what this election is all about....

I know you're all interested and involved people, possibly supporting Bernie or Hillary, but in any case concerned about what's happening to this election cycle.  Whether Hillary is your choice or not, I hope you'll take time to watch this speech all the way through.  It made me know why we have such an important job to do.

Write in Judy Hines for Representative in the General Assembly - 8 th District

Bernie has not given up and he can still win.  Do not give up on Bernie.
April 19, speech at Penn State.    Check out this video on YouTube:

http://youtu.be/_f8GG-DpXOs

Yesterday was the NY Primary,   Let's look at the numbers.
  1,817,552 Democrat Voters counted
     868,987 Republican Votes counted

Hillary 1,054,083
Bernie   763,469

Trump.    524,932
Kashi.      217,932
Cruz.        126,151

What does this tell you about the chances of a Republican winning.?????? No way to win with these numbers.

Bernie still has a chance to win the nomination because the independent votes will vote for him.  He is still beating any Republican in the poles.  The delegates can still make a difference, this election is not over yet, the momentum is on Bernies side. We need large voter turn out and the energy and votes  of the young voters to make the difference.

There were almost one million more votes cast for a democrat in NY yesterday than folks voting for a Republican (R=868,987) (D=1,817,552).    My numbers were from an early return and may change when the totals and absentee votes are in.   Also remember there are thousands of independent voters who will not cast a vote till Nov.

Next week is the PA Primary and the results of the April 26 primary will be an important election in selecting which candidate be the Democrat Nominee.
Write in Judy Hines for Representative in the General Assembly - 8th District

Please vote,  every vote counts.  We need your vote.
Our candidates for Senate, and the House need to win too!  Bernie and Hillary cannot get our issues past without help.  We need  legislators  who support our Democratic  issues. You can help end the gridlock by voting against the Republican obstructionist agenda.

🍏 🍃 ♻️ Looking forward to a peaceful and sustainable future,

Nancy G.

Feeling the Burn in Pennsylvania

Below is a copy of an email that come from the Bernie campaign.  Also Bernie volunteer Randy Younkin from Youngstown called me about the Bernie PA Grass roots efforts.  Volunteers from the Ohio Bernie campaign will be delivering signs and other campaign materials to us to help us get out the vote for Bernie.  call Randy if you want   to help 1-330-727-1617

Dear Nancy -

Today our Targeting Analyst, Ben Muirhead, came over to my desk and told me that we can win Pennsylvania – a critical upcoming contest, with 189 pledged delegates at stake – but we need to register 7,500 more new Pennsylvania voters in time for the deadline, which is this Monday, March 28th.

We've done the math, and if 600 of you get on the phones this afternoon and evening for two to three hours each to call unregistered Pennsylvanians, we can hit this goal.

CALL PENNSYLVANIA RESIDENTS NOW »

Since February 1st, in every primary or caucus where we’ve won or picked up significant delegates, the participation of new and young voters has been essential. In the states coming up, we can do very well if we focus our efforts on expanding the electorate, and then make sure those new voters turn out.

Time is short, and our goal is big, but it’s nothing compared to what this movement has already accomplished.

Make calls now to help us meet our Pennsylvania voter registration goal.

Thank you for all you do.

In solidarity,

Claire Sandberg
