League of Women Voters event Jan. 30, 2015


LEGISLATIVE INTERVIEWS 2015

Friday-January 30  Noon

Community Library of the Shenango Valley

The League of Women Voters of Mercer County will be asking questions of local legislators during an open meeting at the Community Library of the Shenango Valley.  Interviews will follow a light lunch beginning at noon.

As a day of action 14 members of the DWMC attended this event.  

Our president Judy Hines acted as the timekeeper and and other members who belong to both organizations contributed food and helped with the event.

Questions were also submitted by the audiance. This was our best attended Legislative Interviews in recent history of this event. I counted over 50 folks and many more arrived after  my count, all 45 seats were filled with many people standing in back. 

Some of our DWMC members that came out in the cold snowy day in January with questions for our legislators.  

Thank you all for coming. 
It is important for our legistators to know that we care about the issues that they are working on.

DWMC November Meeting reported in the Grove City Allied Newspaper

President Judy Hines presided at the November meeting of the Democrat Women of Mercer County and led the assemblage in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Hines welcomed members and guests and introduced guest speaker Lori Thiel from Pa. CareerLink who spoke on services available to those seeking employment. Thiel, who teaches resume writing at the CareerLink Center, stressed the importance of a solid resume.

If interested in learning the basics or sharpening your resume, classes are held Wednesday evenings, 217 W. State St., Sharon. Stop by the center or call 724-347-9257 to reserve your place.

Hines thanked everyone for working to help get out the vote, coordinated by the Wolf campaign.

Many DWMC members had the opportunity to meet Tom and Frances Wolf at the Democrat headquarters when the "Wolf Pack" bus rolled into Sharon in late October.

Government and legislative issues chair Deborah Roberson spoke briefly on election results. DWMC members intend to keep newly elected state representatives feet to the fire and hope for more cooperation and less obstructionism.

DWMC members voted to retain current officers for the coming year. There will be no regular meeting in December. The group's annual holiday get-together will be a potluck brunch at the Democrat headquarters, 10 a.m. Saturday.

In lieu of a gift exchange, members are asked to bring food donations for the county food warehouse. Previously, Sandy Laurie offered to be temporary chair of the Ways and Means Committee. Pat Simons has volunteered to assist.

Feb. 7 - Phenomenal Women 200. DWMC will focus on voter registration and membership. Membership information and downloadable form are available at www.democratwomenmc.org

The next meeting of the Democrat Women is 10 a.m. Jan. 10 at 16 Vine St, Sharon.

Fredonia American Legion Auxiliary

The recent meeting of the Fredonia American Legion Auxiliary was opened with prayer by Chaplain Rachel Cogley, and regular ritual by President Sharon Hlusko with 11 members present.

The children's Christmas party will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the social hall of the Legion. All members are asked to bring cookies.

Committee reports were Americanism, The Essays for the contest will be picked up on Feb. 23 or may be sent to Mary Ellen Flynn, chairman. President Hlusko thanked all members who helped with the cleaning of the Legion, and the Veterans Day dinner; 60 veterans were served. Community hours reported were 214. Rada Knives orders were distributed; more will be ordered. Mary Jane Shearer ordered more brooms. Following the meeting the ladies enjoyed a Christmas party. The next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 6.
